NoteQuest Adventures Part 3

Due to Littlefoot’s demise last week, the duke of the Black Bear clan has hired someone to go retrieve his son’s belongings (and body) so it can be laid to rest properly.  And so,  another character awaits!

Materials: NoteQuest Expanded World Adventure

Race:

2d6 = 4 Pixie, 8 HP, Start with 5 random Basic Spells

Class:

2d6 = 7 Guard, +4 HP, Short Sword 1d6 damage

Spells:

4: Cold Ray – 4 damage to one monster, it cannot attack next turn
3: Teleport – Can teleport to any empty room, can be used to escape combat
2: Light – Creates a globe of light to replace a torch (does not use hand)
1: Heal – Heals 5 HP
6: Fireball – Deals 5 damage to all monsters in a room

I can’t believe I didn’t get a single instance of the same roll twice.  That’s my luck today, I guess.  I suppose it gives me a nice variety of different spells…though that 12 HP scares me!

I pulled a name from Ironsworn Elf Names: 91 Cybela

Cybela answered the call of the Duke of the Black Bear clan and entered his audience chamber.   Hearing the news of the disappearance of Littlefoot, she was very distraught!  She had been the guard of Littlefoot’s chambers for the past several years and had grown to love his little antics. She swore that she would delve into The Tomb of the Eternal Darkness and bring him back, then go back to exact vengeance on the beasts therein.

As a reminder, here is the map when Littlefoot was ended:

Just like when you rest in the city, the rooms will be reset with monsters.   I’ll leave the unlocked doors unlocked, so we’ll let the oracle decide if she enters the left or right door in that first corridor, since they are both unlocked.

Cybela flicks her wings nervously as she enters the entry corridor of the tomb.  Ahead she can see three doors.  Two of them appear to be unlocked, one is locked.   She attempts to look for clues as to where Littlefoot might have gone, but alas, the floor is crisscrossed with tracks in the dust.

Oracle roll: 1-3 Left , 4-6 Right – 4!  She’s on the track of Littlefoot!

Monsters: 2d6 = 2, Ghost of the Prince (6 HP; 4d; Intangible)

Cybela walks into a room filled with melted candles, with a secret door open to a stairway leading down.  She begins walking towards the stairway, assuming that is where Littlefoot would have gone, when she hears an otherworldly voice, “Who dares disturb my slumber!”

Cybela attacks:  1d6 = 6  That would be good normally, but due to the ghost being intangible, it ignores the attack on even numbers!

C HP: 12-4 = 8

Cold Ray 4 damage; Prince 6-4 = 2HP and he loses his next attack

Short sword: 1d6= 5!  Yes!  Prince 2-5 = Dead

Cybela doesn’t waste time and slashes the ghost of the Prince with her short sword.  The thing laughs as it passes through him harmlessly.  “Fool!”  he hisses and reaches his ethereal hand into her heart.  She grunts from the cold that overcomes her body, then gets an idea!  Cold Ray!   She points her fingers into the face of the ghost and unleashes her cold ray magic.  It seems to have affected him greatly and it hovers there, stunned.  She tries once more to slash it with her short sword and the ghost seemingly pops like a soap bubble and disappears.

It seems obvious that an open secret passage would be the path taken by Littlefoot, so I won’t bother with an oracle roll here.

Cybela descends the staircase carefully and enters a dimly lit corridor.  Two doors stand at the end of the hallway, one is unlocked, so she pushes into it.

Monsters: 1d6 Scorpions = 4 Oh no (2HP; 1d; Poison)

Fireball: 5 damage to all monsters in room, defeated

Cybela sees a room full of skittering scorpions and decides to not waste any time fighting.  She outstretches her hand and unleashes her fireball.  The arachnids are incinerated.  There is another unlocked door to her north, this must be the way Littlefoot went…

She enters a room filled with pillars.   And there in the middle of the room, lies the still form of her little ward, Littlefoot.  She chokes back a sob and steels herself as she sees a massive bone golem approaching from the pillars.

Monsters: Bone Golem (12 hp, 5 d, undead)

Honestly, I don’t see a way I can win this fight…I have expended my two attack spells, and am down to 8HP.  Oh well, here goes!

Move silently: -1 torch ; Monster roll to see me: 1d6=2 (they only succeed on a 1)

Cybela creeps up to the form of Littlefoot, silently keeping an eye on the hulking mass of bones.  She readies her Healing spell as she reaches out to Littlefoot’s body, but alas he is gone.   She gathers up his body in her arms, along with his belongings.  She then proceeds back out of the dungeon and returns the fallen hero to his family.

+68 coins; Rapier 1d6+1; Ring: Armor of the Gods (ignore Deathtouch); Lamp (light with no hands)

She’ll return to the city and spend 1c to rest up and reset her spells.  Sell her short sword for 1c and keep Littlefoot’s rapier.  Spend 2c to refill her torches.6

Littlefoot’s family weeps as Cybela lays his body down at their feet, and she swears to once again set forth and finish the evil that waylaid their Littlefoot.

Ok, so at least I was able to get Littlefoot out of the tomb.  Looks like next time we’ll just explore the remaining empty doors to try to find the boss.  So, at least we won’t have to face that Bone Golem in the pillar room!  See you next time!
