NoteQuest Adventures Ep 5

 In the last episode, Cybela was able to explore the tomb a bit more, and I think she’s on the verge of finding the boss lair. However, she ran out of torches and had to Teleport home. After doing so, I re-read the rules, and I think I fudged a little bit. Teleport should take you to an empty room, not a corridor, so technically I should have left before doing my last search for hidden passages. But no matter! I had a Light spell that I could use to make my way back out of the dungeon regardless, so no rule breaking really, just a shortcut.

As a reminder, here are Cybela’s stats:

Pixie Guard, 12 HP

Items: Rapier 1d6+1, Lamp, Ring: Armor of the Gods (ignore Deathtouch)

Spells:

Cold Ray – 4 damage to one monster, it cannot attack next turn
Teleport – Can teleport to any empty room, can be used to escape combat
Light – Creates a globe of light to replace a torch (does not use hand)
Heal – Heals 5 HP
Fireball – Deals 5 damage to all monsters in a room

After resting up in the city, Cybela is determined to go back into the tomb and clear out the leader of the forces that have re-inhabited the ancestral home of the duke’s family. Once that is done, the guards can go in and finish cleaning up the remainder of the forces. And so she begins her journey back into the Tomb of Eternal Darkness.

We’ll have to reroll the monsters for the first cleared room and then the second empty room on L2. Otherwise, we’ll need to fight/sneak past the Living Armors that will be blocking our way in two of the rooms. Hopefully, we’ll have enough torches!

L1 Cleared room with melted candles and staircase

Monsters: 10, 2 Living Armor (8hp; 3d)
-1 torch move silently Monster roll: 4,3 success, they have to roll a 1 to see me

Cybela moves into the tomb, coming into the now familiar room with the melted candles and secret staircase. She is a bit surprised to see two MORE sets of Living Armor moving around the room. They have really become a scourge of this tomb. She is able to carefully sneak past them and move down the staircase into level 2. She creeps down the corridor and enters the next room on the left, also with 2 Living Armor. She’ll attempt to be sneaky once again…

Cybela comes into another room that was previously empty and wants to try to make it down the staircase to the next level, but first she takes a careful look around…

Monsters: 3, Bone Golem (12HP; 5d;undead)

-1 torch move silently. Monster roll: 6 success

Another Bone Golem moves into her view, carefully plodding along. This tomb is a nightmare of undead and armor! She moves to the staircase and takes note that she only has 6 torches and her Light spell remaining.

On level 3, she takes the left door, and attempts to sneak past the 2 Living Armor standing guard in the room.

Door North: 1, Trapped! 4, Raise 1 skeleton (3HP; 1d; undead) and 2 Living Armor (8hp; 3d)


Great, now I have a skeleton along with 2 Living armors that will get to attack me first, since I triggered a trap.

Cybela: 12-7 = 5

Cold Ray: 4 d on Living Armor; 8-4 = 4hp and lose next turn.
I pretty much have no choice but do this to survive the next round. And I can’t teleport out, because there are no empty rooms this time around. That’s the danger of not clearing rooms I guess.

Cybela: 5-4=1. Drink Health Potion = 12 HP

Fireball: 5 d to all monsters. Living armor 1: 8-5=3 ; Living armor 2: 4-5 = 0 ; Skeleton: 3-5 = 0 Undead roll :2 (it rises on a 1)

Cybela: 12-3=9

Rapier strike: 1d6+1= 2 Living armor 1: 3-2 =1

Cybela sneaks past the patrolling animated armor and attempts to open the door leading north. It was trapped! A mystical sound occurs, and a skeleton rises from a pile of bones. She is caught by surprise and the two sets of armor, and the skeleton surround her and begin to attack! She is pressed hard but is able to shoot one of the armor sets with her Cold Ray. It damages the metal and stuns it momentarily. That gives Cybela enough time to quaff one of her healing potions just before the other armor and skeleton attack once again. They are not quite as formidable as before, but still, she decides to loose her fireball against all 3 enemies. It explodes in flames, destroying one set of armor and the skeleton. But the final set of armor presses on and attacks once again. Cybela is able to parry the blow, though it sends shockwaves down her arm as she strikes the metal upon metal. The armor strikes back, and she turns her shoulder in time to allow it to absorb much of the blow. This time, she is quick with the rapier of her lost friend and is able to bring the armor down!

Whew, I wasn’t sure I was going to make it out of that fight. It used up a lot of our resources though, and I don’t want to have to try AGAIN to get to the boss. Let’s press on.

Room roll: 1, Small room with another door

Monsters: 1 Living Armor (8HP; 3d)
Contents: Several pots with dead plants

Cybela moves into the room from the trapped door, and it is a small room filled with lots of dead plants in pots. Probably from people of old bringing flowers for remembrance of the lost. She readies her rapier, and moves to engage with the Living Armor.

Cybela: 9-3=6 HP The monster gets to attack first because I sprang the door trap

Rapier: 1d6+1 = 2 Why all the freaking 1’s!!!! LA: 8 -2 = 6HP

Cybela: 6-3=3 HP Drink other Health potion 12HP

Rapier: 1d6+1= 5; LA: 6-5=1 HP

Cybela: 12-3=9 HP

Cybela is waylaid by the living armor as it rushes into melee with her. But she is quickly able to trade blows with it and send it back to it’s rest. Unfortunately, she must drink one of her potions to restore her lost health from that battle.

Room Roll: 5, Large room with 2 doors

Monsters: 7 none, thank goodness
Content: Text sculpted into the floor, may have secret passage

Cybela walks into a large room, and notices a strange set of runes carved into the floor. There is also 2 doors up ahead, one to the north and one to the right. She begins to study the runes, drawing on her Pixie magic to attempt to find a secret passage.

-1 torch find passage: 5, Chest: 1c, 2: Health Potion (restore full hp)

Cybela traces out a pattern in the runes, and they come alight, revealing a hidden chest. She opens it up and finds 1 coin and another health potion. That will come in handy!

Cybela finds a hoard of treasure and sorts it all into her backpack. She then goes back to the previous room and unlocks the second door to the right.

Monsters: 11, 3 Fungoid (4HP; 2d; Loot; Regeneration (1 on a d roll, monster gets 6 or full hp)

Cybela: 9-6=3 drink potion 12hp

Rapier: 1d6+1 = 5 One fungoid down

Cybela: 12 -4 = 8

Rapier: 1d6+1 = 2 Fungoid 4-2 +6 regeneration since I rolled a 1 = 4

Cybela: 6-2=4

Rapier: 7! Fungoid down

All of the fungoids had loot, so I’ll roll now for each one: 4, 6, 3. 6 is a treasure, the other two rolls are coins. +2 c and 5 on the Treasure chart, Roll in Wonders! 5, Sapphire of Magic (learn a random spell)

Cybela opens the door to find 3 fungoids in the room, with more runes on the floor. She tries to sneak past them and decipher the runes, but when the runes light up to her touch, they move to attack. She trades blows with the shroomy guys and as she slices them to pieces she hears the clatter of coins and a gem falling to the floor. She picks them up and feels warmth emanating from the gem. She concentrates her power on it, and a spell leaps forth into her mind!

Spell learned: 3, Teleport…..NOOOOOOOOO. I sure could have used another fireball or cold ray there.

-1 torch search for secret passages. 1 torch and light spell left. 3, Nothing there.

Ok, well, I’m almost out of torches. There are two rooms between me and the exit that have living armorX2. Even with my teleport, I’ll have to sneak past both of them. So I might as well, just walk out and sneak.

Back on Level 2, we have to ascend the stairs, then go into a room with 2 living armor. First I’m going to cast Heal and bring myself back up to 9 HP.

Cybela: 9-6= 3HP I don’t think I can survive this. I can teleport away, but there’s no way to defeat these guys with this low of health…

Teleport back to adjacent empty room

Taking note of what I have…. 3HP, 1 torch, 1 light spell, 1 teleport, 1 teleport scroll, mana potion, and money. I guess I’ll just walk in and fight to the death. I can save the potion for the next person who comes looking for my body! LOL I’ll try sneaking past them one last time.

Ok, well I was able to sneak past, but now I have to cast my Light spell, so I won’t have anything to sneak past the 2 living armors blocking the stairs on Level 1. At least I’ll die close the entrance I guess.

Cybela is able to sneak past a set of living armor, after having to teleport away when they notice her the first time. But she is able to sneak successfully the second time. But when she ascends the stairs back to level 1, her Light spell begins to flicker out as she tries to sneak past the 2 living armors waiting in that room…and she succumbs to the darkness, leaving her vow and her possessions laying on the floor.

The end of Cybela. Well, that was a long mission, but very fun. Maybe I’ll try again, or maybe I’ll lay this game down for a bit and try something else. I hope you enjoyed it, have a great day!
